Attractions North, West & South of Townsville

The Capricorn Caves are located just north of Rockhampton and a 42 minute drive from Emu Park.  The sedimentary rock of the Caves started forming 390 million years ago under the sea from coral reef.  Now the above ground limestone caves form huge chambers some with stalactites, rare ferns and up to 5 bat species.

First discovered in 1881 by the Olsen Family, the Augusteyn family took over in 1988 and have developed an advanced ecotourism attraction that conserves and manages the environment of the property.

Visitors can choose from wheel-chair access guided cave tours, wild caving adventures & abseiling&

There is alfresco dining, a licensed bat bar, gift shop specializing in Australian souvenirs and pool for tour guests.

Events in the Caves include:

Opera performed by the Underground Opera Company with shows scheduled for late May and early November.

Summer solstice light spectacle – due to the summer alignment of the sun over the Tropic of Capricorn, a brilliant beam of light penetrates the darkness of Belfry Cave through a 14m vertical shaft.  Available on the Cathedral Cave tour from December to early January.

STAGE 2 - COVID-SAFE AND OPEN FOR BUSINESS!

As of midday 1 June 2020 Queensland has entered Stage 2 of the COVID-19 Recovery Roadmap and we are OPEN FOR BUSINESS for Queensland residents and full-time travellers!

We are fully compliant with the COVID-SAFE program and have additional safety and cleaning measures in place to make your stay safe, comfortable and enjoyable.

We understand that we still live in a time of relative uncertainty and, with that in mind, we have decided to introduce a “Book with Confidence Guarantee”.

What is the Book with Confidence Guarantee?

The Book with Confidence Guarantee is applicable if you are no longer able to travel due to COVID-19 related developments. For example: you become sick with COVID-19 or someone immediately connected to you does and you are forced into self-isolation, or the Alert Level changes meaning travel becomes impossible, or there is a Government mandate for you not to travel in your local area/region or the area you intend to travel to. In these and other similar cases there will be no charges levied to make changes to your booking dates. We will provide a 12-month credit or full refund (in exceptional circumstances, determined on a case by case basis).

Please be aware that where your request to amend a booking is not linked to COVID-19 developments, normal T&C’s will apply.

Border Restrictions

At this stage the Queensland border remains closed to interstate travellers but, according to the Queensland COVID-19 Recovery Roadmap, the planned reopening is 10 July 2020. We look forward to welcoming all our regular winter travellers after that date.

If you are ready to stay, you can BOOK ONLINE.

Our office is operating on restricted opening hours (9am to 11am and 2pm to 5pm). If you can’t get hold of us during these hours, leave a message and we will get back to you ASAP or jump on our website.
